मार Ks......!! Not the right approach !

Competition to be the best starts from the day we step into this world. We are expected to be the best, but not taught how to be and after all people don't understand the pyramid structure. There can be only one end point / one person at the top and everyone, expects their child to be the best !

Thus starts the pressure !

It isn't surprising that the education system still continues to evaluate a student based on the Marks scored. Thus the first lesson the student learns,  "Result matters, not efforts". But we all never know the hard work the student has put in and also the "मार" he/ she has undergone.

Am using the analogy of मार in this context to explain the pain the child goes through internally and in some cases externally as well, where they are being pressurized. But after completing education and being in corporate life for close to a decade am still unable to crack this age old logic.

Marks is just a subjective rating given for performing on a particular test. This marks can differ with different group of students, so a student 1 who tops amongst group A need not be a topper in Group B.

We all did have classmates back in our school / college who were toppers and low scores. But the ones who scored low have not failed in life. Some.of low scorers have settled with great jobs and some toppers are with medicore jobs ! Which clearly means that there are huge number of opportunities outside, but if we don't teach how to identify the opportunities, that's a failure on our part and not the student !

Therefore starts the most important task for a parent to identify the interest of Kid and the strength they possess. Today even a retard child can participate in Special Olympics and bring glory to the entire nation, but only if you identify and provide the necessary training.

1. Understand your kid strength
2. Talk to them and know their interest. Your neighbour's kid strength need not be your kid strength
3. Explain them the path and help them meet some of the experts in those areas. Develop interest into passion
4. Provide them required training
5. Monitor their growth
6. Forget Marks.

Let them enjoy what they are best  at !!
